Download a text file list of ontology codes and definitions

Open byroncrump opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

I have a list of ontology ids that I would like to define (e.g., ENVO:00000003, ENVO:02000059). Is it necessary to search each one individually on the website to learn what they mean? I cannot find a list of these ids and definitions on the Environment Ontology websites or GitHub site. All the downloadable items are in formats I cannot read (like "OWL"). I appreciate any help you can provide! Thank you!

HI @byroncrump

Our reports folder includes tabular forms of ENVO content, which may be what you need.

The basic report has the IRIs and the definitions, but others have more good stuff like synonyms. See the README in that folder for details.

That should refresh every time we make a release.

Thank you for this guidance! Just a quick update for you. I found the file I’m looking for = envo-termTable.tsv, but I struggled to download it so that I could open in a spreadsheet. GitHub uses a lot of unfamiliar language and is not easy for the untrained to use. I eventually figured out that I had to right click on the “raw” button and select “download linked file.” So I am good now, but thought I would send this note in case you find it useful.

Thank you again! Byron
