I've rebased on the latest main and force-pushed - which dropped the precommit results, but it looks like that was fortunately (as I had hoped) auto-regenerated.

BTW, not quite yet ready for merge while it's working pretty well on my test cases so far, I want to do some more tuning as I can't yet guarantee...

I've finally gotten my WLED setup going again after returning from the holidays, so I'll be finally resuming work on this over the next few days.
