difference between this and serverless-optimizer-plugin?

One of the projects I've inherited uses this plugin. I see that it is deprecated.

The README just says that this is a child of serverless-optimizer-plugin. That doesn't give me a ton of information. What does this plugin do that serverless-optimizer-plugin doesn't do, and vice versa?

Looks like external is one of the options provided by this plugin, but not serverless-optimizer-plugin.
