I wonder what's happening lately Doesn't boot on Huawei P smart either.

This is due to Huawei's FBE. Either format data using TWRP or do a wipe using erecovery without encryptable flags from fstab. Pie GSIs based on AOSP v108 above works right away with Y6 2018 though
