In order to make Spend-before-Sync branch buidable, the #1242 needed to be done. But DarkSideTests probably need deeper thoughts and research how to modify it. So most of the refactored code will be probably commented out and marked with this ticket to review.

I'm reopening this ticket so that the work that needs to be done can be tracked in DAG for post-release cleanup/reconsideration.
