Class 'Varien_Object' not found

I am getting this error:

PHP Fatal error:  Class 'Varien_Object' not found in /home/bamboo/bamboo-agent-home/xml-data/build-dir/TR-TEST-JOB1/webroot/app/code/core/Mage/Reports/Model/Test.php on line 37

Any ideas?

I had the same problem until I realized the phpunit.xml was missing in the root folder.
