Google validation tool throwing errors on the full.jsonld set

Open alko-k opened this issue 6 years ago • 3 comments

Hi Adam, Iam following your great work on schema.org json and as I am working on it I though it's good to share what I found. Google dataset search validation tool throws a few errors on the full json https://github.com/ESIPFed/science-on-schema.org/blob/master/examples/dataset/full.jsonld. Most of them are because datacite's vocabulary is not recognizable, but also the date in distribution seems to not be accepted.

Kind regards, Alexandra

Hi @alko-k!

The datePublished issue is currently being addressed in latest schema.org v6.0 release happening on Jan 21, 2020 (https://webschemas.org/version/6.0/schema-all.html). See https://webschemas.org/datePublished where they've incorporated schema:Date in the range of the property. See: https://github.com/schemaorg/schemaorg/issues/2309

And the use of external vocabularies throws errors in the Google structured data validator because they don't recognize anything but schema.org. I believe some folks have spoken with Google about changing these errors into warnings, but not sure about how far they got. But, happy to revisit how we've used the Datacite Ontology if compliance to the the Google validator is important. I'll keep this issue open for a few weeks to let others comment.

Thanks @ashepherd, good to know that google is also aware of these. Iam currently implementing this schema, so whatever comes up I will post.
