Add f19 16pft 1850 and Hist to list of surface dataset resolutions (for the PPE work)

Open ekluzek opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

To be consistent with the PPE work we need f19 datasets for 1850 and Historical transient for 16pfts. These datasets will first be used for the f19 spinup needed.

Definition of done:

  • [x] Create the datasets
  • [x] rimport them
  • [x] Add them to namelist_defaults
  • [x] Add them for automatic creation in the mksurfdata_esmf Makefile

I generated the namelist with this command ./gen_mksurfdata_namelist --nocrop --start-year 1850 --end-year 2023 --res 1.9x2.5 in /glade/derecho/scratch/slevis/temp_work/new_rawdata/tools/mksurfdata_esmf.

The job is in the queue. Once it starts, it will quickly generate this fsurdat file surfdata_1.9x2.5_hist_1850_16pfts_c240926.nc and it will take a bit longer to generate this landuse file landuse.timeseries_1.9x2.5_hist_1850-2023_16pfts_c240926.nc

UPDATE I ./rimport-ed these files on 2024/10/1

Testing on derecho

  • Testing the addition of the new fsurdat/landuse files to the Makefile with make global-hist-1850-f19
  • ./build-namelist_test.pl
  • python testing

The testing worked. Opening a PR next.

Look at #2810 and possibly finish it with PR #2834.

That's what I figured - so I deleted the post. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm not sure where this post is on github, but I don't think we want to be in the business of maintaining different parameter files for different surface datasets. Seems like it introduces too much room for errors.

Is there a corresponding parameter file with only 16 PFT values? The 79 PFT parameter file works, but we have to specify all 79 in each new perturbed parameter file. It would be convenient (but not necessary) to have a 16 PFT parameter file.
