Hopefully a simple question -- is there some example code illustrating some of the various features to see how all of this hooks together to make a useful program? As I did not find any under this repo -- If such things exist, please point to the url.

That strongly depends on what you see as a useful program The sample application in the arch folders gives you a glimpse on how to configure an ENIP adapter device.
