Q/gallery animations get messed up when Safari is resumed

First, try to reproduce the bug and figure out the exact diagnosis of why this happens.

To reproduce the bug:

Load http://qbixstaging.com/Trump in Safari on iPhone or iPod, or install a local version. Then, when the animations start, press the Home button to get out of Safari and back to the Home screen. Wait about 10 seconds (until the current Interval animation ends and a Transition was supposed to begin) and enter the app again.

Expected behavior

The gallery should ignore the previous animations (both interval animations and transition animations) and only show the "current" image and current interval animation, i.e. play it cleanly based on the image data for that image. It could either start from the beginning or somewhere in the middle, however you want to do it, but it must be clean.

Symptoms

Often there is no "interval" animation at all -- there should be a "kenburns" animation but the image just sits there, until the next transition begins. Also, sometimes when you get back to the app, the scaling seems to be completely off in the kenburns animations for a while.

Figure out and add a comment to this issue explaining what is happening to cause these symptoms, and how to fix. After I review and confirm that this is what's happening, you will be able to fix this bug, and close the issue.
