@aetx I think a load balancing benchmark would be very helpful, especially since you already identified issues with GPU re-creation of the grid. Let me know if you want to discuss or if you don't have the time right now

@streeve I can help in a conceptual discussion, but I don't have much time to check out how to implement it.
