It would be nice to add a couple of sentences to the homepage about what ontologies are and why they are useful, below the "Welcome to the EMBL-EBI Ontology Lookup Service" heading and above the search bar.

Something like

Ontologies are curated hierarchical dictionaries which can be used to annotate biomedical datasets. The Ontology Lookup Service (OLS) indexes ontologies to make them searchable by humans and machines.
