Monthly CO2 conservation error exists and 1e-8 threshold crossed mostly in the month of February

When running the coupled GCAM-EAM-ELM model the simulation was crashing due to CO2 conservation error. Increasing the error threshold from 1e-8 to 1e-5 prevented the simulation from crashing, however, the error typically went above the 1e-8 value in the month of February each year and was lower than 1e-8 in all other months .

Why does the error increase only in the month of February?
