deleting the group - deletes 'exported' bookmarks

Open AndriiOmelianenko opened this issue 3 years ago • 4 comments

Describe the bug if you want to delete the group for the list - the exported bookmarks are deleted too.

To Reproduce

  • create a new group
  • export group to bookmarks
  • archive and delete group
  • observe that bookmarks were deleted as well.

Expected behavior exported bookmarks should not be deleted. That's the point of "export". if it deletes the bookmarks on changes of the group - it should be called something like 'synced bookmarks' or something. but not exported, as exported refers to something not in control of addon anymore.

I can see that a similar bug was already reported https://github.com/Drive4ik/simple-tab-groups/issues/786 and https://github.com/Drive4ik/simple-tab-groups/issues/869 and https://github.com/Drive4ik/simple-tab-groups/issues/640

I just ran into this too. I figured maybe checking the option "Leave bookmarks of closed tabs (bookmarks will separate the separator)" would de-sync this, but no luck.

The workaround I found for the time being is simply to copy the bookmarks folder once it's made and then paste it to make a duplicate. When you delete the group, the original folder will still get deleted, but the duplicate folder will not.

I'm also affected by this issue, I appreciate the synced bookmark feature and want to keep that happening, but if I select export it should give the option of where to create the export and make a duplicate of the group somewhere (from memory it used to do this in the past). It seems to simply export to the default location (ie. where the syncing happens) and then when the group is deleted and the synced group is removed there is nothing left.

A potential workaround for now is to select all tabs and export them using the Firefox bookmark tabs feature, or, with pinned tabs, assuming you don't want the pinned ones in each group you select the first and then use shift to select to the last tab.

For anyone coming about this issue, it looks like the dev is from Ukraine and thier status is unknown. Probably won't be any action on this for a while.
