'Unsupported URL' error when reopening tabs pointing to local links

Open ultrapoci opened this issue 1 year ago • 6 comments

Describe the bug I have a few tabs opened on local links pointing to PDFs saved on my hard disk. Whenever I open the browser and my tabs load (because they were already open in a previous session), I get an Unsupported URL error. Note that copying and pasting the URL opens the PDF correctly. The bug happens also when using links pointing to local folders.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open PDFs in Firefox with STG extension
  2. Close the browser
  3. Restart PC
  4. Open browser
  5. Bug

Note that closing and reopening the browser does not seem to reproduce the bug. I get the bug only when opening Firefox after turning on the PC.

Expected behavior The tab pointing to local files and folders should open normally, without causing an Unsupported URL error.

I have just gotten the same issue on my Windows 11 PC. How can this be avoided/fixed in the future?

I think the same situation... opening a Simple Groups tab for PDFdocs

FireFox View (about:firefoxview) is also impacted. Even it's not "open" at the moment when I close FireFox.

Not reproducible here on Linux. All about: pages and local pages open normal after restarts

Can confirm: Reproducible in Windows (regardless of restarting the PC), but not in Linux. (Although the extension crashes quite frequently under Linux for me; after leaving FF open for hours; havent bothered to look into the matter really.)

I can reproduce this on Linux, not on restarts, but when opening a tab group:

  • Open a local file (using the file:/// path) in a tab group
  • Close that tab group window (make sure there is another open window so that the browser does not close entirely, ~so switch to another tab group if you only have a single window~)
    • EDIT: After some more testing, this is not reproducible when you close the entire browser. You have to only close the tab group window while the browser is still running (e.g. another window is still open)
  • Open that tab group again.
  • The tabs looking at local files show the "Unsupported URL" screen

I am running Ubuntu 23.10, Firefox 120.0 and STG 5.2

Just for cross-linking, the Firefox View issue was also reported in #1080

I can reproduce this bug following the exact steps that @patrick96 presented. I had 2 windows of Firefox running, one with PDF files opened. I closed that one, and then from the other window switched tab groups to the one I had just closed just, then the Unsupported URL screen was prompted.

I am running Windows 10 Pro 22H2, Firefox 120.0.1 64-bit and STG 5.2
