only one person can vote issue

Open dchubad opened this issue 9 years ago • 5 comments

In the admin panel where we create a contest, at the bottom there is a options dropdown menu with only one vote per contest or unlimited. shouldn't the first setting be Only one vote per contestant? seems a bit odd only allowing one person to make a vote. the 2nd option allows someone to vote on the same photo over and over again, i don't see the point in that. there is no way to undo a vote either, once you make a vote it appears your stuck with it. sadly i am not very good with database coding or i would have done it myself and offered the code here, would be great if someone could have a look at ways of getting it to work properly or add the extra options in the dropdown menu.

If your voting type is "Only one vote per contest". only one user can vote on a contest. (don't know why it's made this way) If you select "unlimited" you can vote once per user per contest. I'm not 100% sure of this but i sure it work that way in my fork.

when i first downloaded the photo contest package and installed it i took the liberty of testing out quite a lot of things but when the voting options [unlimited] was chosen it allowed anyone to vote as many times as they wanted on one or more photos. if the option [one vote per contest] was selected then only one person was allowed to vote on the whole contest which meant nobody else could cast a vote.it has been a while since i posted this bug but i did manage to get it working so that it really does allow only one vote per customer/member. i cant even remember where i made the code alterations now but it all worked fine by the time i had finished. The only other bug i found was with adding (some) new photos, i had to open some in paint and resize them and save them into a different file type such as from .jpg to .png. then i had to open paint once again, load the newly saved file then save back to a .jpg so photo contest will recognise the photo. i am guessing it has something to do with some security or copyright protection on some files that are transferred over the internet. all the images that were sent to me were in a .zip file and sent through hotmail. lastly i would like to say that this photo contest script has huge potential and many users on facebook were 'very' interested in it but those people did not have any web server to host it. i even managed to create a new page so members could see the stats which they all enjoyed also i created another page where people could read the rules and send in photos. it is a shame there is no option that allows 'only facebook' users to vote but hey nothing is impossible right? its a great script thanks

Hi,

There is some poor code in this script, it would need some rewrite in order to make the voting system more reliable (I didn't get the one vote bug, I will have to investigate !).

Thks for the feedback.

Hi @Dric , great work. Thumb up !!

I have the same issue like @dchubad On the settings page I choose "Only one vote per contest" but only one vote can be made per one contest.

Have you a code to correct this issue ?

Hi,

I'm sorry but this script is deprecated and I don't have time to debug it. :disappointed: There are forks of Photo contest that may have resolved the issue.
