Did you add that command to a dictionary? i.e. personal.dic I typed: open hrome open google-chrome in my personal.dic and it opens Chrome just fine.

I also just figured out how to finally get my file-browser to open: open home file-browser 'xdg-user-dir | xargs caja' I use "caja", replace with whatever file-browser you use.
