Version mess up when using auto update system

The launcher always seems to revert back a version or two on me after a while, unsure how to fix. Sometimes it also fails to update, getting stuck on "extracting: 100%"

Hi! Could you please explain a bit more? There was issues with update system before 1.10.0 release. From what version you are trying to update? I suggest you to load latest version and get back here if it happen again.

Sure, this was in version 1.10.0, it updated to 1.11.0 and then at some point reverted to 1.9.2

I'm going to be downloading the recent update so if it happens on the next update I'll post about it.

I restarted my computer and it appears as though the application fixed its version without me having to install a new one. If the version backtracks again I'll be sure to update the issues page.

Seems to have reverted from 1.11.0 back to 1.9.2, or at least it thinks it's 1.9.2. Can't tell you what triggers this slide, it was working fine for about a month.

Are you on Windows or Linux? I think it is possible that you have 2 BL versions on different locations added to startup.

Windows but my machine doesn't have BL as a startup app. The downgrade and then upgrade happened without a restart, I think I turned the app off for a while and then tried it later. The location its in shouldn't have any other version of BL either so I'm not sure where it's getting this idea from.

Could you please capture screenshots of the folder where BL is located as well as the startup apps from task manager? Would be also nice if you check the temp folder C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp and %Library Folder%\.temp for any BL executable.

I think I figured it out. I found a "Blender Launcher Updater" which was at 1.9.2. I deleted it and it seems like it's back to normal. There was a .exe in temp but that was the correct version. Hopefully that fixes the issue.

But even if there is an updater file (what is on purpose) it cannot run by itself. I'm still thinking the issue is related to Windows startup or shortcut.

Not exactly sure what you hope to find in windows startup, I'm not finding anything related to blender launcher. The app seems to be running fine so I guess there must be an updater somewhere?

Sorry for bumping thread, I'm just a bit worrying because can't trace a root of an issue and provide a help 😞 At least I'm glad to hear that everything works now!

Mmm yeah, I guess maybe as a suggestion for future versions of the app you can try and merge the updater.exe and the launcher? I don't really know the issue either, I have this app on another computer and have never had this problem with it.

Well, It is impossible to update app without having another app... I can add procedure for removing updater, maybe it will reduce chance of such failing.
