Tony not cutting square
Tony not cutting square, as per photo. Anyone know how to fix this??
Paging the @DoESLiverpool/laser-maintenance team so they can have a look into it (and/or advise)
Thank you
I'm booked in for next week, just wondering if anyone has had (or will have) a chance to look at this? Appreciate you're all busy and can delay booking but don't wanna trek over from Birkenhead if it's not working. Also, would recalibrating Tony be something a user could do? Is it something that could be taught/explained on a maker's night? Happy to help in the future, if I can Cheers Ed
I was able to adjust Tony last night and it is back in square now.
I did spot some cracks in one of the mechanical couplings in the drive mechanism which could explain why this has been slipping out of alignment recently. I will take some measurements on Saturday, so that I can identify a replacement for this coupling.
I will leave this issue open for this additional diagnostics.

Awesome, thank you
Was in on the 19th December and Tony was out again. Tried the other machine and it was ALSO not cutting square. (Sorry thought I'd taken a pic but can't find it). Is no one else having issues, or noticed this with these machines?? Surely it's not just me?!
I’ve now measured the shafts on both sides of the damaged flexible coupling and they are both 10mm.
I managed to find one on eBay, as follows:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362591217763?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=43YsHyVtRtG&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=dnqRap2FQRm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I will order one, as it is under £5. Delivery is due 4th April.
Elliott and I spent a lot of time working on Tony during the Maker Night on 29th May (mostly Elliott if the truth be told).
Elliott installed the new coupler, the old one was slid along the shaft and clamped in place or we would have had to disassemble a lot of the machine to fully remove it.
We then spent a lot of time cleaning the guide rails, as we detected a lot of area’s where there was a restriction to movement. After a lot of cleaning, this was significantly improved. It also became apparent that any debris under the rail will cause issues with smooth axis movement, something we will need to be aware of in the future.
We also tested movement accuracy at different speeds and tuned the settings in Lightburn to give a reasonable compromise on speed and acceleration.
As it was late, we didn’t have much time to complete many tests, but the machine was apparently working well when we left.
There are still issues with a damaged lens, so further tests will be undertaken once the lens has been replaced.
