Add the ability to include journal pdf into compendiums

Open lozalojo opened this issue 5 years ago • 6 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. When I drag & drop a pdf-journal entry into a new compendium, I cant open the pdf-journal from inside the compendium, no pdf is loaded, only an option for text/image, see image:

Describe the solution you'd like To be able to create compendiums with journals/pdfs, so that we can export to modules that we can activate in other worlds.

Is there a reason why you are unable or unwilling to drag the PDFs into the world? Currently this is the supported behavior. I could feasibly permit this but it's a significant amount of complexity for little gain.

For the same reason I do compendiums for items, to be used in all my scenarios just by loading a module that contains the compendiums I use for all my games.

In all my games of, say CoC, I use the same inventories (items compendium), the same skills (skills compendium), the same character templates (character compendium), and the same set of pdfs that contains tables, rules summary, combat flow pdf, 1920's calendar, etc. (pdfs compendium). You can use pdfs for a lot of things that you can carry out between scenarios of the same system, for example, the corebook divided by chapters, or an index of journals pointing to specific pages of the same pdf -> multiple journals which would be boring to recreate one and every adventure you run.

I have around 10 pdfs that I load in every CoC scenario, that's why I asked for this feature, to incorporate all those pdfs to the same module I have the rest of CoC stuff and load it in every CoC scenario.

When I asked I thougth it was in fact a bug, but since It seems to be a complex new feature to implement, just consider it.

Alright thanks for the feedback. It's a common use case so it makes sense to do eventually. For the time being you can import the PDFs from the compendium and they SHOULD work.

Yes. that is what I currently do, I create the compendium pdfs and when I have to use journal-pdfs in another world, I just import them and it works, I know it is not optimal, but at least it works.

Thank you, great work!!!

I hope this can be looked into some day, it would be really useful for packing rules and cheatsheets

Also based on current research, everything in the Journal tab (actually anything on the right panel except for Compendiums) gets preloaded for all players, even if no permissions are giving. It is usually advised that people use Compendiums for storing long-term content, to avoid cluttering the server.
