EVDI on qemu virtual host

Open forgoty opened this issue 3 months ago • 3 comments

Linux kernel: 6.15.11 evdi version: v1.14.10

I've run qemu virtual host that runs the xorg server and xterm as GUI application. I also added the "evdi" kernel modules and can see them appeared via lsmod:

> lsmod | grep evdi
evdi 94208 1
drm_kms_helper 229376 7 cirrus_qemu,bochs,drm_shmem_helper,drm_display_helper,evdi,drm_client_lib,i915
drm 745472 13 drm_kms_helper,cirrus_qemu,bochs,drm_shmem_helper,drm_display_helper,evdi,drm_buddy,drm_client_lib,i915,ttm

> cat /etc/modprobe.d/evdi.conf
options evdi initial_device_count=1
softdep evdi pre: drm_kms_helper i915

However, when I switch to xterm I can see no virtual monitors created:

> xrandr --listproviders
Providers: nunber : 2
Provider 0: id: Ox40 capt 0x2, Sink Output crtest 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:madesetting
Provider 1: id: Ox40 capt 0x2, Sink Output crtest 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:madesetting

> xrandr --listmonitors
Monitors: 1
0: +*Virtual-1 1280/325x800/203+0+0 Virtual-1

Is evdi can work with qemu? How I can see my virtual evdi monitor?

@forgoty I meet the same issue. I notice that:

> xrandr --listproviders
Providers: nunber : 2
Provider 0: id: Ox40 capt 0x2, Sink Output crtest 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:madesetting
Provider 1: id: Ox40 capt 0x2, Sink Output crtest 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:madesetting

You have no associated providers. I don't know how to associate.

If you use a real machine with video card. After you add screen run xrandr --listproviders, it should like:

> xrandr --listproviders
Providers: nunber : 2
Provider 0: id: Ox40 capt [**NOT 0x0**], Sink Output crtest 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: [**n**] name:madesetting
Provider 1: id: Ox40 capt 0x2, Sink Output crtest 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:madesetting
Provider 2: id: Ox40 capt 0x2, Sink Output crtest 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:madesetting
Provider ....
Provider n: id: Ox40 capt 0x2, Sink Output crtest 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:madesetting

The Provider 0 is the video card in your real machine. The Provider 1-n is the video card created by evdi. and Provider 0 associated the other Providers.

I'm stuck there, I don't know how to let the Provider 0 associate the other. And the capt of Provider 0 created by qemu is 0x0.

If it is 0x0, means it has no any caps.

Please let me know if there is any progress.
