DisplayLink process constantly consuming 14% CPU when no DL monitor or hub connected

Open php4fan opened this issue 10 months ago • 3 comments

I installed DisplayLink following https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/DisplayLink and it works, but when I don't have ANY DisplayLink monitor nor any DisplayLink USB device connected, just using one single monitor connected directly through HDMI to the laptop (and the built-in screen disabled with the lid closed), there's a process called "DisplayLinkManager" that's constantly consuming about 14% CPU (on an intel i7).

I don't remember whether or not I rebooted after I disconnected the screens and the hub, but either way, this shouldn't happen. The no-longer-existing screens do not show up in Display Configuration, as expected.

If you have a DisplayLink dock connected the process will be active, but should not be using CPU power if the screen is not connected. I'm on an Archlinux on Intel i7 platform and when I disconnect the dock the process shuts down as it should. Was the problem also there after rebooting your system? Try installing the driver from the official page. Scroll down to the Latest Official Driver section and download the install script, not the Debian repository information (first uninstall the one installed on your device and revert the changes suggested by ArchWiki).

If the problem persists, please send a ticket with logs to our support, where we will take a closer look at it.

No. However, after that I never connected the hub again, so I don't know (yet) whether this happens every time you connect and then disconnect external or the hub.

Right now I'm observing this again, where the process is consuming around 8% CPU for no reason, and this time I haven't connected any DisplayLink adapter (let alone any monitor connected to it) since I've booted. It has been months, and several boots, since I last ever connected any displaylink device.
