Modern Servers, Older clients

so I know this project allows modern java player to join beta servers but since it uses viaversion couldn't it do the opposite as well, like having beta clients join modern server, the original viaversion utilizes this and with blocks, mobs, armor, and items, that don't exist in the client for being an older version, shouldn't it work, or no because of how old some of the versions are

ProtocolSupport had an unmaintained branch for beta 1.7.3. Maybe you can add more versions and then merge it to main for latest fixes?
