basically get metrics.json from multiple locations, and use one of the locations to query to (and graphite automatically distributes the targets when querying)

this finally got added to graphite: https://graphite.readthedocs.org/en/latest/render_api.html#maxdatapoints it should help a lot with stuff like `from -3months` -> test and use!

"avg over" assumes minutely resolution

use config options or somehow query graphite for this.

update_metrics should list all unknown units it encountered
