Candle crashes As soon as it starts

Versions

  • Candle version: 1.1.7, 1.2.9b
  • Firmware version: unsure

PC info

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • OpenGL version: 2.1

Describe the bug I have tried both versions 1.17 and 1.29 both 32- and 64-bit varieties. The issue is the same. The program will load, but after a couple of seconds, it will just crash. Windows reports that the program has stopped and has no idea why.

I have exactly the same problem. I don't get a splash screen or anything, just the error.

I don't know if this helps you, but in my case it turned out that the computer I was using didn't support the graphics requirement of the program. I installed it on a different computer and it worked/s fine.

It required a newer version of OpenGL than 2.1?

I'm at the point now where I've moved to a Linux box where I'm busy installing LinuxCNC instead because installing Candle on it got too hairy. Nearly all my machines are running Linux these days, and I don't feel very good about replacing my good Dells with Win10 barges just to run Candle.

If I'm really forced to... I'll drive the darned machine from a BeagleBone Black.

Update! No problem in the beta release on opening and closing on a second screen under W10/64bit/home edition. Just got my eye on the beta versions. Checked on the 1.2.10b_x64 beta and this is no longer a problem to stop on second screen. Thx a lot Developers of Candle team!

Work Around!: Run program from first screen instead of second screen solved this here. Had to copy from a fresh installed Candle the line from the settings.ini formGeometry=@ByteArray(\x1\xd9\xd0\xcb\0\x2\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\x3\xc7\0\0\x3u\0\0\0\b\0\0\0\x1f\0\0\x3\xbf\0\0\x3m\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\x5V) into the settings.ini of the previous version linked on the programbar. Now It works on Screen1.

Adding proposal to the readme.md:

47 ² Take note for Windows multiple screen users that the Candle program needs to be closed on Screen1, causes non working state. Workaround see https://github.com/Denvi/Candle/issues/450 #450

Under Windows usage of a multiple screen set will cause an unbootable state if program isn't stopped on the Screen1. Workaround is to replace one line in the settings.ini from a fresh installed Candle into the .ini of the installed version. Cheking to improve the modification of the settings.ini file so that parameter won't be affected. Batch file to replace the line before starting the program would be a workaround to.

So here's the troubles I got but they are over now. Just looking to replace the ini setting in a batch so I can start every-time no matter on witch screen I ended.

Same issue here. Win10-64bit home edition Candle 1.1.7 Running Candle on a 2nd screen.

UPDATE: Reinstalled the software and started on the first screen works. Seems dual screen is a pita once closed the software on screen 2 instead of screen1. ( as found in https://github.com/Denvi/Candle/issues/173 )

Starting Candle grblcontrol from the lower bar on the screen but nothing starts. Thius weekend it was working, even after a reboot, now on Monday it won't start... Now having the nonworking condition. A short windows error in the taskmanager but nothing on display. Hard to get into the problem. Grblcontrol (Candle).exe found under my 3018 software tab. Even running as administrator didn't brought it back... Where can we find the error report about the Windows Problem Reporting (32-bits)? Kind regards, XSZ Candle
