UI/UX can be confusing to first time visitors

This is a Feature Proposal

:tophat: Description

For bug reports:

  • What went wrong?
  • What did you expect should have happened?
  • What was the config you used?
  • What stacktrace or error message from your provider did you see?

For feature proposals:

  • What is the use case that should be solved. The more detail you describe this in the easier it is to understand for us.
  • If there is additional config how would it look

During the Sri Lankan deployment attempt, I've got the following feedback from users and industry experts:

  1. The user might wonder "why he/she is here" - so the action/ purpose must be more obvious.

  2. Since anybody can post an issue, there are some "test" posts and just comments which can be confusing - # tagging feature could solve this (e.g. #country #poll #comment #link #info etc.

  3. User registration should be more prominent (feedback was it's currently hidden in a corner) - can there be a overlaying step guide like what you see when you create a new Gmail account?

  4. When signing up with your email address, it would be great if the address is verified before getting access to vote. e.g. a verification link sent to the email and the user needs to click to verify. Alternatively mobile phone number.

  5. Creating a new issue is also hidden away and the button can be confusing.

  6. A link to "How to/ Help" would be great.

(I'm new to GitHub, so I apologise if I'm not following the best practices)

Thank you for your feedback ! :dove:

If you want to follow best practices, usually we try to make one issue per suggestion, so we can close and debate them independently. I think that point 4, and 6 would make great issues in their own right. I expect point 1. and 2. to solve themselves, and point 3. is part of the onboarding ; it's valid and interesting feedback, just maybe not worthy of its own issue. Point 5 may be a matter of taste, of habits. Cf. the material design guidelines.

Great feedback @erandaginige ! Some of this is being tackled by #238 #214 and #11 if you can make seperate issues for :

    1. Since anybody can post an issue, there are some "test" posts and just comments which can be confusing - # tagging feature could solve this (e.g. #country #poll #comment #link #info etc.
    1. Creating a new issue is also hidden away and the button can be confusing.

It would be really great.
