Temporary anonymous edit keys
Low priority improvement idea:
Frequently we email a bunch of known candidates and ask them to update the site with info about themselves. Quite often some of them will email us with some details but don't want to sign up to edit directly.
To try and reduce the barrier, we could email each candidate a personalised link with a one-time key which allows them to edit their own profile without creating an account first that only works for that profile. For example, when we do the mailout each email address could get a link like candidates.DC/person/123/edit?key=blablabla but that key only works to anonymously edit that profile (perhaps even for a limited time)?
This might increase the number of candidates who fill in their own details without fully allowing anonymous edits.
Thoughts?
It would be useful, and risk-free if combined with the proposal for an EditCheckList to monitor suspicious edits or if an anonymous quick edit (followed by moderation) system was implemented.
