[BUG] Immediate crash upon reading the controller
Describe the bug As soon as I launch the application, I hear the sound effect that my controller has registered as an xbox controller, but my PC starts spazzing, and my mouse will start moving incredibly slow, before the sound effect for when my controller disconnects plays, and BetterJoy crashes and my PC goes back to normal.
Expected behavior Not sure what I expected other than for it to work.
Controller (please complete the following information): Using a USB-enabled Pro Controller.
I should add: the application ALWAYS crashes as it tries to "start thread poll". Don't know if this has something to do with it.
Is it an official pro controller?
I'm experiencing the same thing, using PowerA wireless controller: https://store.powera.com/Product/1507452-Wireless_Controller_for_Nintendo_Switch_GameCube_Syle_Purple
Not sure if this is at all helpful but here is some info the ViGEmClient.dmp shows:
Same problem here, does exact same thing with me as well!
I have the same problem when trying either the 8bitdo SF30 or my official nintendo joycons, I am using 8bitdo wireless bluetooth adapter to connect them to my PC, but the program crashes on reading the controllers (program works fine when not reading them however)
Similar things goes for me aswell!
The software, at first, didn't located my controller (a non-official switch pro controller). So I tried to use the add controllers functionality. After setting it up as I wanted, windows started to lag really hard (the slow cursor problem), I heard some windows sounds of it registering the virtual xbox adapter, to an crash right after it. I quickly opened up the task manager to see if something was off when it started lag, and the software was making my disc usage go through the roof...
Same. Heres a video of what happens when im trying to link my official Switch Pro Controller with the newest version of Better Joy. I intalled all the nessesary drivers and everything. The previous version i had worked fine but i get this problem every time with the new version.

OK... Idk if it has something to do with the new Controller connection option
but i downloaded Version 6.3 instead of Version 6.4α.
Now the program works perfectly again.
BUT i had to activate "Use HIDG" which wasnt activated by default.
Otherwise Better Joy wouldnt recognize my controller.
I have this problem and don't know how to fix it
Same issue for my PowerA controller. It connects and immediately dropped.
same issue for me with my switch pro controller with usb connection.
The issue was caused when I set rumble to false in the config and was resolved when I set it to true again.
Hello! I Sort of Solved the Issue by Finding a Better Program, I Made a Tutorial About it, You Can Check it Out if you Please: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXqaiEfAGyc&t=5s
@MrW4ffle That does not fix the issue, that only sets your controller inputs to be keys presses on your keyboard. For someone like me who is trying to using a Nintendo Switch Pro controller with Citra and has Gyro controls for aiming, simply using ReWASD will not help. Has anyone else found a solution to this issue?
Still a problem... any solutions yet?
I am still getting this problem too. Do we know if there are any updates?
Anyone find a solution in the end?
Re-enabling rumble worked for me... (Issue started after disabling rumble)
I have the same problem using a Power A controller
