PLCrashReporter Deprecation

Open marksands opened this issue 4 months ago • 3 comments

Question

According to this GitHub issue, PLCrashReporter is slated to be archived following the full decommission of AppCenter next year. Are there plans to fork this dependency to provide long term support or is there an alternative strategy on the roadmap?

The current dependency targets Swift 5.3, which lacks the ability to adopt native visionOS support without expanding the Package.swift manifest. I was going to add the feature myself and open a PR, but the linked issue sent me alarm bells and figured I'd save myself some cycles if this is going to cause a radical shift to something else.

Hi @marksands 👋

Thanks for raising this.

Crash Reporting is a key feature of the Datadog SDK, and we’re committed to supporting it long-term. We're aware of the situation with PLCrashReporter and have already scheduled work to evaluate future options.

While we haven’t finalized which path we’ll take yet, you can feel confident that crash reporting will remain a supported part of the SDK going forward.

We appreciate your initiative to contribute - feel free to hold off for now, as the underlying dependency strategy may evolve.

Since there’s no further action or updates planned through GitHub, I’ll go ahead and close this issue. It will remain pinned for visibility. Thanks again for raising this - rest assured, we have it tracked internally.

Hey 👋

We are actively working on addressing the PLCrashReporter deprecation. We are leading toward replacing it by KSCrash which has a nice feature set and a full Apple platforms coverage. There is no ETA to share but we will use the ticket for tracking.

I am reopening this issue for visibility.
