These statements are important along with the note on the home page. csvlintprivatedata

We are considering using CSVLint as part of our publishing process. We were hoping to use CSVLint prior to gaining approval for release but a concern has been raised about sending the data to CSVLint over the internet for validation.

We're thinking we need to either:

  • validate after publishing (not ideal).
  • change our process to validate after approval (but this introduced a longer delay between approval and release).
  • install CSVLint locally (#142 please)

Thanks - this is all stuff we need to get sorted out in the beta stage of the app. Feedback on how you want to use it is really helpful to make sure we get it to do what you need :)

Just to clarify - the concern is that sending the data anywhere is a problem before approval, so the private upload wouldn't work for you? It's not published anywhere if uploaded, but presumably just the act of sending it elsewhere would be the issue?

I think so, we plan to ask our governance group what risk their comfortable with.

Here's what we're thinking about using CSVLint as part of the publishing process. We like to have as many of these tools embedded within CKAN and with user interfaces that prevent us making mistakes editing JSON and hence requiring extra validation. I hope this helps... csvpackaging

@bcouston can you pop links to the stuff we recently added in here so that @bezthomas and @Stephen-Gates can check it hits their requirements? Hopefully we can then close this.
