Additional context
NB: ** I do not know if this is a Linux bug, or a firmware bug** If I manually do "bright up one level, bright down one level" on the keyboard, then it goes to the proper brightness (actually as soon as I hit "bright up one level"). So, if I have a 5% light level, it will go from "full bright" to "11%", and indicate this properly.
Reason for suspecting it might be Dasharo: Power management is supposed to be the function of EFI. Reason for suspecting it might be Linux/X: When I do hit "bright up", the proper level is displayed on the on-screen display, and it goes to the right level. As much as this implies that the system knows what it should be, it also implies that it isn't the EFI so much as the commands being given to the EFI.
