Card is very sensitive to incorrect or unavailable states

I installed the card using the HACS method, and can see it's added the javascript module into the resources page. However, when I copy and paste the example config into a manual card configuration, I get an error of 'Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'state')' I've modified the lux_dongle id to match mine. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
