I think we no longer need to keep that long license message at top of files or logo bottom right. All the license links mention non-existing websites. Let's move to one of the OSS licenses - MIT etc. This might help adoption as companies have strict legal rules about code they use and devs will just skip the library if it's not one of the permissible licenses.
License: I reached out to Dan, with no reply. SocialText only has a sales contact form. I'll keep trying to reach them. But at this point, I believe we are legally clear to move on. So all the files only have the copyright notice. Feel free to add the licenses back if you disagree.
I feel this should be public, Ramezrafla sent this via email. Putting in the public domain, hope is ok.
Eddy,
You are NOT "legally clear to move on". The licenses must remain as they were originally if you want to follow the spirit (and I believe law) of Open Source licensing. If not, you are technically in violation of the license as I understand it (IANAL, of course.) Even if you can't reach the people in a few days (I received mail from Ramez just last week while traveling, with a fever, and with a missing charger), you need to be patient and clear things with the copyright holders (just like textbox publishers and documentary producers do to get the photos and stuff you see in books and movies).
I will try to follow up with Ramez Rafla and see what can be worked out. I'm really glad people care about my old code.
Sorry to be so harsh, but the success of Open Source requires careful following of the licenses. I am not the one with the rights to change the licenses.

I wrote this to Ramez:
Ramez,
I reached out to Ross Mayfield who used to be CEO of Socialtext. He is no longer involved, but confirmed that the Socialtext Inc company still exists (it was bought from the original investors) and that it still owns the rights to SocialCalc. Without their permission you can't change the license, and must continue to do what it says (logo, etc.) even if it seems silly. Sorry.
We both suggest that you keep trying to contact the company. There's a good chance that if you can find the right person you can make your case and perhaps get the license changed to all Artistic. If you find the right person to make the decision, they can contact me for help. The main company number listed on the SocialText.com website is +1 650-323-0800. Sales is not who you want to talk to - you need someone more corporate. I'll try them, too, once in a while to see what I can do.
Let me know that you received this.
