Can't install ver 5.0.0 in Firefox because it is not signed

Open artofwalls opened this issue 5 months ago • 3 comments

Dowloaded the fuskr-firefox-5.0.0.zip and tried to install it from the add-ons manager, but Firefox tells that the add-on can't be installed because it is not signed.

This can be override in developer and nightly versions of Firefox but not in a regular one.

Yes, this is not something that can be resolved by me. You have a few choices here:

  1. Try the Chromium version.
  2. Try it via the developer or nightly editions (not recommended).
  3. Wait for the extension to be available on the relevant extension store and install it then.

I'd like to inform that the Chromium version could be installed into Chrome without any errors using 'Load Unpacked' feature in extensions. It also seems to work. Nice.

🔧 Working on Firefox Installation Solutions

Thank you for reporting this! You're absolutely right - unsigned extensions can't be installed in regular Firefox. Here are the current options and what we're working on:

📦 Current Installation Options:

Option 1: Firefox Developer/Nightly Edition

  • Download Firefox Developer Edition or Nightly
  • Set xpinstall.signatures.required to false in about:config
  • Install the unsigned extension

Option 2: Temporary Installation (Firefox 109+)

  • Go to about:debugging → This Firefox → Load Temporary Add-on
  • Select the manifest.json file from the extracted ZIP
  • ⚠️ Extension removed when Firefox restarts

🎯 Planned Solutions:

Short-term:

  • Better documentation for manual installation
  • Self-signing guide for power users
  • Alternative distribution methods

Long-term:

  • Mozilla Add-ons submission - We're preparing to submit to addons.mozilla.org for official signing
  • Automated signing in our GitHub Actions workflow

Timeline:

  • Documentation improvements: Next few days
  • Mozilla Add-ons submission: Next release cycle
  • Automated signing: When Firefox build pipeline is complete

This is definitely a priority issue. Thanks for your patience - Firefox users deserve the same easy installation experience as Chrome users!

Will keep this issue updated with progress. 🚀
