Yep. I'm pretty sure that's what we did over in frc-docs. Development motivation has been slow as of late, but we're always open to reviewing contributions.

I'd probably argue you should just add your meta tags to a template. Overriding the description breaks one of the core reasons for this extension. Can I ask what purpose...

I'm not sure what's standard in the Python world here. I don't see a lot of projects actually using pip's support for optional requirements.
