Timeline position syncing

Open jcapayne opened this issue 7 years ago • 10 comments

Timeline position should sync across devices. "Show more" should keep timeline in the same position but fill "upwards" (maybe if tapped when it's in the top half of the screen, similar to tweetbot).

I can understand the syncing being a bunch more work, but ++++ on the Show More filling upwards. When I first use Toot in the morning I end up tapping Show More then having to scroll down to try to find the last toot I saw when I loaded the app.

The way Tweetbot handles it is perfect IMO.

There is a separate issue for expansion direction.

Ah! So there is, sorry. :) (#54 for those playing along at home).

Optimally, this should be handled on the Mastodon server so it could propagate by default to any client that supports it.

I've opened an enhancement request on Mastodon if anyone's interested: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/7418

I want to build it into mastodon, but need input in the ticket. @DagAgren If you have any idea for an optimal API for you, I am open for suggestions.

#54 does not solve this for me on Mastodon 2.6. When tapping "show more" and new content loads the timeline jumps to some weird position. I have no idea where I end up. I still have to manually scroll down until I find the post I tapped "show more" above. Very confusing. Hope it can be solved... worked great in Twitteriffic.

This issue doesn’t refer to anything related to 54. If there is a bug, please file a new issue.

@DagAgren It was mentioned earlier in this issue as related to this.

No idea if it's a bug. I would just love Toot to feature what's stated in this issue as:

"Show more" should keep timeline in the same position but fill "upwards"

..and last time I tried to make that suggestion in an issue it was closed as a dupe to 54.

Lamnatos’ ticket just got closed, the api is now included in Mastodon - https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/pull/11762

@DagAgren Does Toot! uses this API already and is able to keep the position in last read toot?
