I have MP3s, but the app doesn't let me play them, only gives the option to download.

Hmm, that's strange. Do you maybe not have any media player apps installed?

I have VLC.

Running Lineage OS, android version 7.1.2 on Nexus 5.

With videos it shows the stream button and streams to VLC.

Out of curiosity, if you install another music player (like Play Music), does the Stream option show?

I installed "Music Player". No difference. Even after a restart.
