Failed to Initialize Filesystem error in Mario Paint Composer DS

Expected Behavior
When all the required files are in place, the game should display a Mario Paint Composer DS splash screen, and pressing any button or tapping the touch screen will enter the song editing area.
Actual Behavior
The game displays a FAILED TO INITIALIZE FILESYSTEM error. Tried creating a RAM disk, and it didn't comply.
Steps to reproduce
- Download Mario Paint Composer DS.
- Extract the required files and place them in the SD card.
- Launch the game.

My NDSBTSRP.LOG just says LOGGING MODE, nothing else. I don't think that might be helpful, but that's what my log file says.

Also tried Unlaunch, no luck.

Yes
I tried and set it to run in DSi mode, but I got a result worse than that error. Instead, the console locks up on a white screen, requiring holding down the POWER button to force shutdown the system.
