Crash in nds bootstrap menu

Open RuneinA opened this issue 3 years ago • 9 comments

Your console: New 3DS XL

Launch Method: SD card. NDS bootstrap version v0.55.4

Version used: Release

Game tested/used/applicable: Pokémon Pearl japanese

Actual Behavior: in the bootstrap game menu, (When we press L + DOWN + SELECT) with low frequency when exiting the menu causes the game to crash.

About 30 times that I entered the menu 2 times I have crashed, I don't know if it happens in other games because I haven't tried it. But I guess so.

There are several types of crashes, one that makes the game crash but you can re-enter the menu and another that when you exit the menu and the game crashes it does not let you re-enter the menu.

This happened to me in a previous version that I don't remember what it was and in the latest version.

happens to me in a hack of pkmn black that changes the title id, sometimes the game just locks up upon resuming the game from the nds-b menu. the console itself seemingly isn't affected, as it still lets you exit into the 3ds home menu

Haven't heard of this happening recently, so it's safe to close this.

@RocketRobz Actually this has happened to me all the time that i've had a 3DS with TwilightMenu on. My first was in 2023, and I've had two, they both do this. I simply got used to just being incapable of using the menu more than once every playsesh. It prevents us from taking screenshots but only every 2nd time I open the menu, that or at random moments I try interacting with the menu. I also use the menu to reset my games, but i can only do it once, the second time I always have to exit to home menu and relaunch TWM++.

But I think you and devs should know that this is indeed a problem we experience, but maybe it's rather something to contact the Nds-Bootstrap devs about?

I am an nds-bootstrap developer. Are you running from flashcard or the 3DS SD card slot? Because the crashing when taking screenshots and when resetting or exiting the game is known to occur on flashcards.

Thanks for the fast reply! I've only been using MicroSD for both modded 3DS'es. And it seems to freeze (not crash) the entire DS-mode when i attempt to interact, especially with "reset game"

I also tried something afterwards... after enabling "direct" on Load Bootloader (nds-bootstrap settings), it had a tendency to not let me utilize the menu at all. It wouldn't open the menu on the bottom screen with the set menu shortcut.

The Load Bootloader setting does not affect how the menu opens. Also, if the menu does not open, that's because wireless features are in use. For example, if you're playing Pokemon Black & White 1 & 2 with C-Gear turned on, you'll need to turn it off in order for the in-game menu to open.

So it's wired connection that does it! I always pressed Yes on C-Gear because it was the first option... I will try some more then. Thanks a lot!

That actually fixed the issue of it sometimes not opening the menu.. i should've known. However it still freezes on attempts at Reset.

It also just froze when I tried opening the menu as soon as i had entered the game world just now too (Pkm White) (Mind you it seems to still be random times. Not every time I do it in a game)
