Use a featureless folder icon with custom icons

I recently found out that custom icons work with directories. This is a lovely feature, but it doesn't really work well when the existing folder icon appears under the custom icon (see image below).
Describe the solution you'd like
I would like a seperate asset to be used (if said asset exists in the current theme, to avoid breaking existing themes) whenever a custom icon is used on a directory (maybe remove the folder on the icon, so it is a blank black square).
Describe alternatives you've considered
An alternate solution would be to just make the icon span across the entire space, or just replace the directory icon entirely (but that might make it confusable with a normal app icon).
