White screen on launch (DS/EZV flashcard)

Open clbr opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Flashcard or Exploits? EZ-Flash V (NYE) Base Console: DS Phat

TWiLight Menu++ Version: Latest flashcard release TWiLight Menu++ Theme: None/default

Expected behavior

The menu should start

Actual behavior

The menu hangs at two white screens

Steps to reproduce

  1. Unpack files to the flash card
  2. Launch boot.nds via the flashcard's own menu

Notes

  • the sd card is a 2 GB one, correctly formatted and working for years with the original EZ-flash kernel 2.0 RC20
  • I have an ez-flash 3-in-1 inserted in the GBA slot (one tutorial says having a RAM expansion may fix the white screens - didn't)

I also waited 5 minutes, as one place mentioned it can take 1-2 minutes to start.

When I use autoboot/replace ez5sys.bin with the provided one, the menu starts. The language questions showed up immediately, the splash is also immediate, but then there's 10 seconds of white screens before the actual menu launches.

Since the menu launches that way, I guess this issue is about launching normally only (via boot.nds). If launching normally via such an old flashcard is out of scope, feel free to close this.

If I remember right, the EZ Flash stock kernel is Moonshell 2-based, which has issues with loading modern homebrew in general.

I'll check over it again, but if my theory is correct, there's not really any way to fix this.

That's fine, just documenting it would be enough so others don't waste time trying.
