Moving Deon
to excluded-nominees
directory as we are no longer accepting open source tools that are primarily used to support developers; focus has shifted to tools that are specifically oriented around supporting SDGs.
I haven't studied Deon closely, but I did review the default checklist they provide as part of their tool. If misalignment with SDGs is the sole reason for dropping this tool, I'm not sure I agree. It may overlap with SDG 5, SDG 8, and/or SDG 10.
Alternatively, if we are firm that the software component of Deon is not eligible, have we considered reclassifying their work as content instead of software?
See possibly relevant DPG indicators below:
SDG 5
SDG 8
SDG 10
@jwflory To qualify to be nominated as open content
, Deon
would have to provide an entire content collection as single pieces of content will no longer be accepted in the DPG registry following a recent standards council resolution. On that basis, I propose to exclude Deon
as it is primarily a developer tool.
I guess I see things differently. I don't see Deon as exclusively a tool for developers; I think its impact goes wider than just a developer tool and it includes helpful guidance for anyone seeking to build inclusive and socially responsible practices for working with data. Not only developers work with data. Curious for a wider view on this though from others, since I am missing the context of the standards council resolution.
@jwflory @nathanbaleeta - I was on the fence with this one as well. While it does seem to be oriented toward developers, this is the type of tool that could help developers write more accessible platforms. Clear link to SDGs as referenced by @jwflory above. I would be okay to keep it and mark it as content.
