pre-release flag name

The pre-release flag is all we have now to indicate that a release is not an officially supported release. It can be used for betas, tests and code that eventually may be promoted (after testing) to a release.

Maybe we should discuss changing the name to something that indicates "not-a-release" more. Or "for-testing-only".
