Feature: argument/keybinding to hide side panels

Open 0x7375 opened this issue 7 months ago • 1 comments

Motivation

The side panels in btdu take up a significant amount of screen space. While the information they show is nice, the estimation next to the path is enough for me and I’d prefer not to see it by default unless I for example press a key to toggle it. By contrast, ncdu just shows the file tree, which I find much cleaner and easier to navigate.

Suggestion:

Add a command-line argument (e.g., --no-panels) to hide the side panels and display only the file tree. The side panels could still be accessible with a keybinding as I mentioned.

This would offer a cleaner default view for people who prefer a more minimal interface, while still preserving access to the extra information.

Hmm, the Tab key is free...
