Guinea Pig emoji
Guinea Pigs may look a bit similar to hamsters or gerbils. š¹
What is the status of this proposal and the next steps to move it forward?
Edit: According to this article it was declined on 2020. If this decision is final, then this could probably be closed as won't fix, leaving guinea pig owners with either a hamster emoji or the combination of the guinea flag and a pig. š
Thank you for the link. I wish more emoji proposers would document their experience publicly.
Yeah, Iām not tracking proposals as closely as I used to. The Emoji Subcommittee has been confined to reconsider rejected emoji proposals in the past, e.g. for the Donkey, so I would not rule it out completely just yet (unlike flags).
I have a more general proposal half-ready that would make it possible to have face/head and body options become available for more animal emojis ā a body variant of š¹ could be better.
In their list of suggestions, Emojination marked a potential Guinea Pig emoji as redundant.
By the way, in my observation (especially on Twitter), a Capybara emoji has more supporters (or at least requesters) than a Guinea Pig emoji.
Hi, I'm the person who proposed the guinea pig emoji. I happened to be researching this subject again, and came across this GitHub discussion. It prompted me to update my blog post with a link to the PDF proposal that was submitted in March 2020. I still think it's an important emoji to add, but as far as I know, the committee won't accept revised proposals. Still, in case anyone wants to see a failed emoji proposal, I'm attaching it here. guinea-pig-emoji.pdf
PS. I adore capybaras, but I can't imagine that a capybara emoji would get used anywhere near as often as a guinea pig, given how widespread they are as pets, plus the metaphorical significance they have as testers. (As outlined in my proposal.)
I think the ESC asks for a revised proposal if it was not following their guidelines. They have accepted completely new proposals for emojis they had declined before, e.g. Donkey, but they would probably reject a slightly edited revision of a document that already failed.
