Inflight map type change cancels the recording or playback

Using the LE option I am able to keep a steady connection for most of the flight, however I noticed that if I change the map type it stops drawing the plane's position and route. When I replay a flight it is the same - can't find it on the screen. And what button should center the screen on the plane? Seems none of the buttons work this way.

Same problem. I have to restart the app every time after changing the map type.
