There's a README section about it.

Besides that I can give the following info about the state of localizations:

  • The only maintained localizations are the English and German ones because those are done by me. Everything else was added in infrequent contributions so other localizations are quite out of date. Frankly I don't see much point in adding additional localizations if those are not frequently updated. I'm still accepting those PRs of course.
  • So far I left out translations of the Qt Quick UI for Android as it is still very experimental and under a lot of change and not yet part of the normal UI for desktop platforms anyway. I suggest other translators leave it out for now, too.
  • So far many external translators left out https://github.com/Martchus/qtutilities so text contained by that library is missing.
  • I have also one other idea in mind: Since Syncthing Tray is sharing lots of text with Syncthing itself it would make sense to extract some of Syncthing's translations for use in Syncthing Tray. This could be implemented in a simple script. So far this is just an idea, though.
  • Another idea: Text could be translated with the help of tools like Google translate and also automated spell checking would be great. This could also be implemented as a script. Of course it would make most sense if a human would still amend the results.

Thank you for the information! - For my part, could you help with RU localization I used SyncTrayzor before, the author abandoned it and now recommends you! Is it not possible to put the localization file next to the application?

Is it not possible to put the localization file next to the application?

If you don't want to contribute translations directly or prefer a more flexible way of deploying them then putting those files next to the application is possible. So far the lookup mechanism is only documented in code. It basically says that you can put translations into a translations folder (next to the application) among a few other locations. The files to put there would be called e.g. qtutilities_de_DE.qm, syncthingconnector_de_DE.qm and so on (there is a different file for each library/application).

Note that this file is computed from the corresponding ts file which in turn is updated from the strings within the source files. Doing this outside of the workflow provided by the CMake-based build system provided by this repository is probably a bit cumbersome.

Another thought: Some other projects use https://weblate.org but I really don't like their interface compared to Qt Linguist. I'm also not sure how well it would work with my ideas for a more automatic approach. I also find it not ideal to rely on another web service. So while using tools like https://weblate.org would also be a possibility I'm not going to spend any effort on that. Anybody who likes this kind of approach is welcome to try it of course.

For reference, @bc38 has just created a PR: https://github.com/Martchus/syncthingtray/pull/346

I encountered a problem during testing. My translation files are in the translations folder next to exe The translation is applied if you run syncthingtray.exe manually And if you set autorun in the settings, the translation is not applied

That's probably because then the current working directory differs and is not just the directory the executable is stored. I suppose I should extend the lookup so also the directory next to the executable is considered. This should be easy :-)

This will be fixed by https://github.com/Martchus/qtutilities/commit/37954d0130232f13f88f5d38d83d9c2ebb9dbe2d.

You were able to contribute Chinese translations and the lookup in qtutilities has been adjusted. So I consider this resolved.
