Will the WPF WebView also adapt the new chromium based engine?

Open ArgusMagnus opened this issue 6 years ago • 5 comments

Microsoft has confirmed, that they will be moving from EdgeHTML to a chromium based engine for the Edge browser in the near future: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2018/12/06/microsoft-edge-making-the-web-better-through-more-open-source-collaboration/#gvKAhOFyburuK5Cs.97

Will the WPF WebView be kept up-to-date with the new engine or will we soon sit on a Control using another abandoned browser engine? Im trying to decide if I should use this Control over CefSharp (I would like to), but this is Kind of vital Information I Need.

I am also waiting for info here. Please provide us with what you know, or even if you don't know anything. A few months ago we started migrating from the winforms webbrowser control to the WebView, but if this control is going to have a short life we would very much like to know as soon as possible. Thanks.

I will assume no answer means the same thing as always when Microsoft is asked about the future of its technologies (Silverlight, Windows Phone, etc.)..

It seems that Microsoft plans to bring chromium based WebView2 to .NET: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/hosting/webview2
