[Android] Slow PDF rendering

PDF rendering speed is very slow on Android

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open a PDF file (example.pdf)
  2. Scroll down

Actual behavior PDF rendering is very slow. Sometimes it takes a few second to render some fragments of a document. Some large PDF documents can't be open at all.

Smartphone

  • Device: Samsung Galaxy S9 SM-G960F (Exynos)
  • Android 10, Android 13
  • Version: 21.11.3.4

I tested using the Collabora Office COOLWSD 21.11.3.6 git hash: eb73aa34 and the issue does not seem reproducible using it.

@ruslanbay, Please can you update your Collabora Office app version and test it again?

Hi @Ezinnem, Just checked again using collabora-office-mobile-21.11-snapshot-arm64-v8a-2022-04-22.apk with the same result (video attached).

I don't know if this info is usefull, but my WebView version is 91.0.4472.114

I'm able to reproduce this using the version from the Android play store (currently installed v21.11.6.1).

But this isn't new behaviour. I've had it installed for months (Maybe over a year), and it's always been very slow to render PDFs. So much so, that it's unusable.
