Pure random internet trawling (it's too hot here in the UK, dont judge me) - led me to https://texample.net/tikz/examples/rooty-helix/ and the rooty helix. Would make a great coding challenge and one to explore polar cordinates, rotations and translations -- love the lavbelling and shading of the given example (all in LaTEX apprarently).
